Boğaçay XLVIII, renamed HALCON llll and delivered by Sanmar Shipyards to South American operator SAAM Towage, was specially designed to serve the company’s Chilean ports. Sanmar Shipyards had previously delivered the SAAM VALPARAISO, SAAM PALENQUE, and ALBATROS tugs from the series.
For ports with limited maneuvering space
Cristián Cifuentes, SAAM Towage Country Manager Chile and Peru, said: “Our fleet already includes three RA2400SX tugs, designed by Robert Allan and all built by Sanmar Shipyards. This tug is not only an ideal tug for ports with limited maneuvering space, but also saves energy thanks to its hull design and special operating capabilities.”
Will provide energy efficiency
Pablo Caceres, Technical Manager of SAAM Towage, said, “HALCON III is the fourth Boğaçay series tug we have purchased from SANMAR Shipyards. It will provide clear energy efficiency in operations for our customers in the United States.” Rüçhan Çıvgın, Commercial Manager of Sanmar Shipyards, said: “The exclusive RAmparts 2400SX tug design is a very suitable choice, combining the maneuverability benefits of a compact design with the power and strength of a larger tug. We have worked closely with SAAM Towage to ensure that we can meet the specific operational needs of our long-term customers and we are extremely pleased with this work.”
The tug, which departed from Turkey, is expected to arrive in Valparaíso in 50 days. With 24.4 meters long and 11.25 meters wide, the tug has 70 tons of traction and can reach a speed of 12.5 knots. The tug has been classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
