The sentence of the captain of the Turkish ship’s Vera Su, which ran aground near the National Archaeological Reserve “Yailata” on the Bulgarian coast last September, became clear.
The captain of the cargo ship “Vera su”, which ran aground on the cliffs of Kamen Bryag, was sentenced to a three-year probation. The “prison sentence” was suspended for five years. The 59-year-old defendant will also pay half of the costs incurred in the case.
VERA SU ship is 85.67 meters long and 12.50 meters wide with 3217 DWT, Panama-flagged, loaded with nitrogen fertilizer belonging to Istanbul-based Kamer Marine Denizcilik. The ship ran aground near the National Archaeological Reserve “Yailata” off the Bulgarian coast while cruising from Yuzhniy to Varna, Ukraine, on September 20, 2021. The management of the “Maritime Administration” in Bulgaria was changed due to the incident.
