The 2007-built ship – now renamed Med Star – is nearly twice as large as Medkon’s previous flagship, the 1,162 teu Medkon Mira, bought at the start of this year.
Medkon’s new ship made headlines earlier this year when it suffered a fire in its engine room while berthed at an Italian terminal in an incident that subsequently required significant repairs.
Medkon Lines currently operates a fleet of 15 container vessels with a network that connects Turkey to North Africa, the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
