Highlights of the draft regulation
The draft of the Ship Waste Management Regulation of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change is as follows:
-It will be prohibited to directly or indirectly release the wastes from ships into the seas in a way that will harm the environment.
-Waste receivers will receive a Waste Acceptance Facility Approval Certificate, Waste Reception Facility Conformity Certificate, or Alternative Application Certificate to fulfill their obligations regarding the collection of waste from the ships berthing or waiting in the open to berth. It will be essential that the wastes are collected and stored separately, without mixing, while being taken from the ships.
-It will also be prohibited to transfer the wastes stored in the waste reception facilities to another waste reception facility.
-Metropolitan municipalities will take the necessary measures for all ships in their jurisdiction.
-An arrangement was also made regarding the marinas. At marinas with a yacht berthing capacity of more than 50 yachts, systems will be established to provide waste reception services at the points where the yachts are moored.
