Last year 200 million 467 thousand 463 barrels of crude oil were shipped from the Ceyhan marine terminal of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Crude Oil Pipeline, which transports the oil extracted from the Caspian Sea to the world markets via Turkey.
The crude oil reaching the last stop of the pipeline, the Haydar Aliyev Marine Terminal in Adana’s Ceyhan district, which is called the “energy project of the century” and whose official opening was made in 2006. The oil was presented to the world market in 2021 with tankers by BOTAŞ International (BIL), which operates the Turkish part of the BTC line.
According to BOTAŞ International and BTC data, 3 billion 777 million 227 thousand 567 barrels of oil were delivered to the world market by 4 thousand 947 tankers from the opening of the Haydar Aliyev Marine Terminal on June 2, 2006, until the end of 2021.
In BTC, where 210 million 767 thousand barrels of crude oil were distributed to the world market in 2020, 200 million 467 thousand 463 barrels were loaded on 280 tankers in 2021.
Last year, the highest number of shipments at the terminal was 19 million 231 thousand 501 barrels in December, and the least number of shipments was 14 million 986 thousand 408 barrels in February.

Nadim Ekiz, General Manager of BOTAŞ International, which operates the Turkish side of the BTC Crude Oil Pipeline, said that the institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources perform a very serious task within the scope of the country’s energy supply policies, both in terms of their mission and structure.
Ekiz stated that they have been offering the oil extracted from the Caspian Sea to the world market since 2006, said:

BTC Crude Oil Pipeline
BOTAŞ International was founded by BOTAŞ on July 3, 1996, to participate in the activities of countries and multinational companies that have a say in oil and natural gas projects, and it was commissioned to operate BTC in 2001.
In BTC, which started to load crude oil to tankers from Ceyhan Marine Terminal on June 2, 2006, the oil extracted from the Caspian Sea is transported to the marine terminal in Ceyhan via Georgia with the pipeline, and from there to the world markets by tankers. The line, which is 1776 kilometers long, has a daily oil carrying capacity of 1 million barrels and 50 million tons of oil per year.
There are 7 oil tanks, 51 block valve stations, 4 pumping stations and 2 pigging stations, each with a diameter of 100 meters, a height of 20 meters and a storage capacity of one million barrels.
