Turkey’s efforts to achieve national naval power in the 1990s, especially MİLGEM, are opening up to the United States of America after Pakistan, Qatar and Ukraine.
According to the information obtained by HaberDenizde.com, Australia-based Austal USA company won the tenders for the Coastal Combat Ship (LCS) and Light Amphibious Warship (LAW), which is planned to form the basis of the new era naval forces of the USA, for 2 billion dollars. The company chose Turkey for the construction of the dry dock to be used at the New West Coast Shipyard.
It will be the main piece
The dry dock, whose construction started at Sedef Shipyard, will be positioned as the main part of the new repair facility in San Diego. The dry dock, which is planned to be delivered in August 2023, will have a lifting capacity of 9,000 tons. The dock, which is 162 meters long and 47 meters wide, will have a draft of 11 meters. “This dry dock will greatly enhance Austal’s ability to provide the Navy and other customers with a highly capable full-service repair facility located in the home port of San Diego,” said Austal USA Chairman of the Board.
