Captain Gökmen Azaklı, Planning Manager of Asyaport Port, said that nearly 40% of the transit container transactions across Turkey are carried out at the Asyaport Port in Tekirdağ’s Süleymanpaşa district.
Stated that the main goal of the ports is to serve the ships in the fastest and safest way, Azaklı said, “Due to the pandemic last year, operations in many European ports were disrupted and even came to a standstill. In this process, we, as Asyaport, became the solution partner of MSC in the light of the latest published data, which MSC is the world’s largest shipowner. We have made investments to ensure the importance of the service we have provided. We have reached an important place with an increase of approximately 20% in the number of our employees.”
Stated that they completed the last year with 1 million 800 thousand TEU handling- processing, Azaklı said that they achieved an increase of 28% compared to the previous year.
Emphasizing that they served 3 ships a day last year, Azaklı said, “We have achieved an increase of 29 percent in exports, 12 percent in imports, and 28 percent in transit. Last year, we operated on 1092 container ships. This corresponds to an average of 3 ships a day.”
Asyaport raises the goal
Stating that the efficiency of the Asyaport Port is quite good, Azaklı said, “Our primary goal this year is to expand the port. We will realize this project before the spring. As of now, our dock length is 2 thousand 10 meters, and when our expansion project is completed, we will have increased our dock length to 2 thousand 810 meters.
On the other hand, we will have increased our handling-processing figure, which was 2.2 million TEU, to the target of approximately four million TEU this year. In this way, we will be able to serve 3 ships with a length of 400 meters at our main dock. To provide this service, we will include additional cranes in our track.”
Expressing that Asyaport will continue to grow, Azaklı said, “While we are proud of being the largest transit port in Turkey, we also want to be the port that handles the most containers in 2022. In this context, we set our goal as 2.2 million TEU handling-processing. With a general assessment, we aim to make more investments, more handling, more employment, and more exports this year”
