A Ukrainian sailor is accused of sinking the yacht of Alexander Mikheev, the former CEO of defense contractor JSC Russian Helicopters, which manufactures weapons that kill civilians in Ukraine, and the current CEO of Russia’s state-owned arms factory Rosboronexport.
It was alleged that the Ukrainian sailor disabled the pumps of the yacht named LADY ANASTASIA, tried to sink the yacht at Adriano in Mallorca, Spain, on February 27, by opening the valves and clogging the fuel pipes.
The detained sailor, 55-year-old chief engineer D. Taras O., told authorities he was a Ukrainian citizen and had worked on Mikheev’s luxury yacht for ten years. D. Taras O explained in his testimony that he had decided to take action against Mikheev’s property in retaliation for the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The Ukrainian sailor said that he opened the valves, asked the crew to leave the yacht, and asked them to let the yacht sink, add that “However, they refused and instead worked to stop the flooding. Their rapid movement prevented the sinking of the ship.”
The sailor, who was brought to trial, said that he did not regret his actions, that his boss was a criminal who sold the weapons that killed the Ukrainian people, adding that he does not regret his actions.
