Petrol Ofisi is protecting the future of water in cooperation with the Biodiesel Industry Association. Used cooking oils to be collected at special points established at selected Petrol Ofisi stations within the scope of the cooperation are collected by licensed waste plantal oil collectors with the coordination of the Biodiesel Industry Association and delivered to recycling facilities. Thus, both clean water resources are protected and a contribution to the economy is made.
According to researches, every 1 liter of used cooking oil can contaminate approximately 1 million liters of drinking water. Annually 2 million tons of herbal oil is consumed in Turkey and 90 out of every 100 people throw away the unconsumed part of it, such as frying oil, by pouring it into the sink.
Used cooking oils will be converted to biodiesel
The cooperation between Petrol Ofisi and Biodiesel Industry Association adds a new solution to this important problem. Within the scope of the project, where a call was made to “For the future of water, used cooking oils to Petrol Ofisi”, urban stations close to living areas were selected for the participation of sensitive citizens and ease of collection. Consumers will be able to dispose of their used cooking oil, together with the closed pots they have accumulated, at the specially created collection points at selected Petrol Ofisi stations. The oils accumulated at these points will be collected regularly with the coordination of the Biodiesel Industry Association and will be converted into biodiesel in the next process.
Drinking water of 2.2 million people will be kept clean
Within the scope of the project started at 31 stations of Petrol Ofisi, it is aimed to collect approximately 45,000 liters of used cooking oil annually. With the used cooking oils to be collected at Petrol Ofisi stations, the drinking water of approximately 2.2 million people will be kept clean. On the other hand, with the conversion of the collected oils into biodiesel, both carbon emissions and secondary gains will be provided to the country’s economy.
“Contributing to the future is among our most important goals”
Selim Şiper, CEO of Petrol Ofisi, emphasized that Petrol Ofisi aims to create benefits and contribute to its customers, society, dealers and stakeholders in every step it takes as one of the most important values of the country that was born on this land and said, “As a company founded on national values, it is the leader of its sectors. As one of the top 3 companies in Turkey, ‘contributing to the future’ is among our most important goals. Our cooperation with the Biodiesel Industry Association is a good example of this basic approach. Although the pandemic covers most of the world’s agenda today, the issue of clean water is one of the most important problems on a global scale. We say that ‘Petrol Ofisi stations are service centers’. Therefore, we are happy to serve and contribute to such a correct solution on such an important issue.
“An Exemplary Project in the Circular Economy”
Selçuk Borovalı, President of the Biodiesel Industry Association, stated that the used cooking oils collected in the houses will be recycled in a way that will not harm the environment and stated that the project will set an example in the field of the circular economy. Selçuk Borovalı continued his words as follows:
“With the project, which will be implemented with the cooperation of the Biodiesel Industry Association and Petrol Ofisi, the waste plantal oils to be collected will create import substitution after they are converted into biodiesel. Reducing the carbon footprint in Turkey’s transportation will enable to increase the share of renewable energy. In this process, where we will be one step closer to our country’s zero waste target, it will also contribute to the protection of the environment and human health. We are starting a mobilization with the project and we aim to make it widespread throughout the country.” he said.
