Following the Odin of Scapa and Thor of Scapa tugs built by Sanmar, one of the leaders of the maritime industry, Freyja of Scapa started to serve in the Orkney Islands of Scotland.
Freyja of Scapa, following a successful Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) inspection and transfer to the UK flag on Friday, October 28th, completed her first operation by providing transfer service between Eagle Blane and Front Polaris tankers.
Freyja of Scapa, which attended to the ship-to-ship transfer between Eagle Balder and Sola TS tankers on Monday, provided escort service to the tanker named Flotta yesterday.
OIC Marine Inspector Dougie Manson said: “As expected, Freyja of Scapa performed very well, as did her sister ships Odin of Scapa and Thor of Scapa. The captain and crew are very pleased with the tug.”
David Dawson, Chairman of the Orkney Islands Municipality Development and Infrastructure Committee, stated of the Sanmar tugs currently in service in the Orkney Islands and said: “We have to thank Sanmar Shipyards, who built all three tugs, as they are first class vessels complete with safety, stability, and operational capabilities. They now have a proven track record of working exceptionally well whatever the demands. It’s great to see three tugs here side by side as part of Orkney Maritime Services’ fleet modernization efforts.”
David Sawkins at the Orkney Islands Municipality Development and Infrastructure Committee stated that they provide high-quality service to their customers with Sanmar tugs and said, “We are very pleased with the quality of the new tug, as with the two tugs operating in Scapa Flow and around Orkney since October 2020. Given the surge in operations, it’s already clear that Freyja of Scapa will be very busy as well. The new tugs allow us to keep up with the times, providing our customers with first-class service.”
After Odin and Thor, operating in Scotland’s Orkney Islands and were delivered in 2020, Freyja was sent to Scotland in early October.
Built at Sanmar’s shipyard in Tuzla, the Odin, Thor, and Freyja tugs play a vital role in port operations, used for ship handling, towing, and escort. Each tug has a maximum bollard pull ahead of 78 tonnes and a free running speed of 14.3 knots.
