IMEAK Chamber of Shipping Aliağa Branch ordinary assembly meeting in January, chaired by the Speaker of the Assembly İsmail Önal; It was held with the participation of the Chairman of the Board of Directors Adem Şimşek and the members of the branch council via video conference system. On the agenda of the meeting, the discussion of the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping Aliağa Branch’s 2021 chamber activity report, and the forecast statistics for December and the end of 2021 were evaluated.
Last month’s meeting minutes were approved at the assembly meeting held via video conference system with the participation of İMEAK DTO Aliağa Branch Chairman of the Board Adem Şimşek and the members of the Branch Board of Directors. The November trial balance sheets were submitted for approval and they were unanimously approved.
The IMEAK DTO Aliağa Branch Ordinary Assembly Meeting, where the December activity report was also shared with the members attending the video conference, continued with the speech of Adem Şimşek, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IMEAK Chamber of Shipping Aliağa Branch.
Adem Şimşek, who started his speech by stating that there was a period in which he started to rise again with the omicron variant, while he hoped that the pandemic, which followed a fluctuating process in 2021, would pass, said, “I hope that this epidemic will end in 2022 by applying our mask, social distance and cleaning measures more strictly in this period.” said.
The rise of the industry will continue
Chairman Adem Şimşek continued his speech by evaluating the estimated container and cargo statistics at Aliağa ports in 2021. Şimşek; “When we look at the year-end figures of 2021, it is predicted that the number of containers handled at our ports will increase by 11 percent compared to the previous year and reach 1 million 400 thousand TEUs. The amount of cargo handled at our ports in 2021 will reach 70 million net tons. Aliağa will be recorded as the second port in Turkey with an estimated 5% increase. When we look at the number of ships arriving at Aliağa Ports, we think that it will increase by 8 percent compared to last year and will close in the range of 5 thousand 900 – 6 thousand units. When we evaluate the number of containers handled throughout Turkey on a TEU basis, Aliağa will rank 5th in Turkey with a share of 11 percent. Although the net results for 2021 have not been announced yet, these results show that the rise in our sector will continue in the new year.” said.

Stating that 112 ships were dismantled at Aliağa Ship Recycling Facilities as of 2021, Adem Şimşek continued as follows: “As of the end of 2021, 112 ships were dismantled at the facilities and 816 thousand LTD were recycled. According to the data of the first 11 months of our Ministry of Commerce and our year-end forecasts, Aliağa Customs will close the year as the 2nd Customs Directorate with the highest volume of transactions in Turkey with approximately 18 billion USD in exports. This corresponds to approximately 50% of the transaction in the Aegean Region. According to the data of the first 11 months of our Ministry of Commerce and our year-end forecasts, our Aliağa Customs will be the 7th Customs Directorate with the highest transaction volume in Turkey with approximately 13 billion USD in imports.”
President Şimşek gave the following statements at the end of his speech: “Unfortunately, last year due to the pandemic we could not realize most of our social responsibility projects and competitions that we organize every year. We have decided to realize our social responsibility projects and competitions in 2022. If there is no extra problem caused by the pandemic, we will do our activities in the best way this year.”
