Mersin International Port Management Inc. (MIP) continues to set an example with its long-term strategies and works that will support not only operational but also environmental and social development. After female crane operators, MIP enabled 7 women to join the workforce as pointers.
MIP, the leading port of Turkey, which meets the increasing labor force need in parallel with the economic growth of the sector and the city, also takes care to support women’s employment. MIP, which managed to increase the female employment rate in the maritime sector, which is 2 percent worldwide, to 5 percent, enabled 7 women to join the workforce with the task of pointers, after female crane operators.
MIP General Manager Johan Van Daele stated that they have developed important projects in cooperation with KAGIDER (Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey) for women to have a greater say in business life with the principle of equal opportunity, and said that they wish to continue with projects that will enable economically empowered women to take part in all areas of business life. Johan Van Daele said in his statement, “One of the most important issues we focus on is women’s employment. Three members of our Board of Directors are women. In previous years, we brought Turkey’s first 4 female crane operators to the sector. They are currently doing their job very well. Finally, we assigned 7 female employees to our operations as timekeepers. While trying to increase the number of our female employees in the upcoming period, we also aim to diversify the professions that women will undertake.”
Johan Van Daele, who stated that MIP, which employs over 3000 people directly and 25000 people indirectly, is trying to create more contribution to Mersin and Turkey both with the employment it will create and with its social responsibility projects, and said: We are making preparations to start the construction of the “Women’s Guest House Project”, which will be implemented soon. We believe that the Women’s Guest House will be a safe harbor for Mersin women in case of need. As MIP, we care about growing together with Mersin. The value we add to the economy is obvious. With the same perspective, we will continue our work for the welfare of society by fulfilling our responsibilities towards our stakeholders, our city, and the environment. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all women of the world on this special day.”
