Kuzey Star Shipyard hosted the keel-laying ceremony of the floating dock built for Project 22220 universal nuclear icebreakers.
Representatives of Atomflot FSUE, operating under Rosatom, the Russian State Atomic Energy Agency, attended the event held in Istanbul. Making a statement on the subject, Atomflot General Manager Mustafa Kaşka said, “The construction of the floating dock takes place on time. The professional competence of Turkish shipbuilders is indisputable. It is very important for us to strictly adhere to the construction schedule. “The floating dock is an important element of the coastal infrastructure for the maintenance of Project 22220 nuclear icebreakers.”
Construction will take 29 months, including the delivery of the floating dock to the Port of Murmansk, under the terms of the agreement.
The agreement between Atomflot FSUE and Turkey Kuzey Star Shipyard, which envisages the construction of a floating dock, was signed on 7 June 2021. The procurement procedure was carried out by the agreement, within the framework of the Federal Law of the Russian Federation No. 223-FZ “On the Purchase of Goods, Works, Services of Certain Types of Legal Entities” and by the Russian State Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom United industrial procurement standards. The protocol for summarizing the acquisition results of the agreement, which has a contract value of 4 billion 981 million rubles, or approximately 46 million dollars, was published on May 27, 2021.
The floating dock under construction, which has a lifting capacity of 30 thousand tons, will be 220 meters long and 48 meters wide. 30 people will be able to serve in the floating dock, which will have a length of at least 200 meters along the slipway deck and a height of 6 meters pontoon.
FSUE Atomflot is a subsidiary of Rosatom and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Russian nuclear icebreaker fleet.
