The countdown has begun for the İstanbul section of the 3rd Presidential International Yacht Race, organized by the İstanbul Offshore Yacht Racing Club with the contributions of the Presidency, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the İstanbul Governorship, with the main sponsorship of DHL Express.
The 3rd Presidential International Yacht Race, which is the only yacht race in the world organized between two continents, will take place between 28-30 October 2022. Organized by the İstanbul Offshore Yacht Racing Club with the main sponsorship of DHL Express, the race will be held on October 28-30, under the auspices of the Presidency, with the contributions of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and in cooperation with the Governorship of İstanbul.
3 parkours 3 cups in İstanbul
In the İstanbul section of the organization, which is included in the 2022 activity calendar of the Turkish Sailing Federation, the first Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha Cup races will be held on the Caddebostan-Adalar parkour on 28 October, the Republic Cup on the Bosphorus parkour on 29 October, and the Blue Homeland Cup races on the Moda-Adalar parkour on 30 October.
A glorious feast on October 29
Within the scope of the 3rd Presidential International Yacht Races, racers from all over the world will compete for the Republic Cup on magnificent parkour between two continents in the Bosphorus. The Republic Cup races will start on October 29 with a moment of silence in front of Dolmabahçe, in honor of Atatürk and his Brothers in Arms.
At the end of the two sections of the 3rd Presidential International Yacht Race, the team that will achieve the best overall ranking will be entitled to the 3rd Presidential International Yacht Race Champion title and the President’s Cup. The İstanbul section will end with a magnificent award ceremony to be held at İstanbul Shipyard on October 30.
Athletes participate from 23 countries
Ekrem Yemlihaoğlu, President of the İstanbul Offshore Yacht Racing Club, which brought the 3rd Presidential International Yacht Races to Türkiye, reminded that the first section of the races was held in Marmaris, Muğla, between 25-27 May and said, “We held the Marmaris stage with the participation of 400 athletes from Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Slovenia, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Belarus, Lithuania, and England, as well as Türkiye. Every year the momentum is getting higher and the international participation is increasing.”
Pointing out that hundreds of athletes from 23 countries participated in the İstanbul section, President Yemlihaoğlu emphasized that the races made a great contribution to the promotion of the country. Yemlihaoğlu said, “İstanbul’s 3rd International Yacht Races will be held in a unique location in the world. It is exciting to organize a race in such a location where one side is Asia and one side is Europe. We believe that it will be a unique value to organize an organization with international participation at a point where İstanbul’s thousands of years of history, religions, and cultures meet. It is our biggest goal for this race to arouse interest in the entire yachting world and to be among the most prestigious races.”
