At the signing ceremony, Nigerian Naval Forces Commander Awwal Gambo said that reducing piracy activities in the Gulf of Guinea is in their first goals. Due to, Gambo stated that they decided to build two Dearsan OPV76 Offshore Patrol Ships in order to increase the efficiency of the Nigerian Navy in the task force. Gambo said “We see this as a milestone in our 2021-2030 strategic plan. These ships will be used in humanitarian aid missions in natural disasters as well as in the fight against piracy, smuggling and drug trade.”

In Dearsan Shipyard’s statement, it was stated that in line with the requests of the Nigerian Navy, the design and construction activities of OPVs will be carried out entirely within the shipyard and will be fully equipped with domestic systems.
The statement said “As Dearsan, which is a pioneer and leader in the field of military shipbuilding and export, we will continue to contribute to the development move that Turkey has initiated in the field of defense industry.”
Dearsan OPV76 Offshore Patrol Ship
Dearsan’s offshore patrol ship OPV76, with its modular architecture, can perform many different tasks, from patrol duties to search and rescue and surface warfare. There are 3 diesel generators on the ship, which has a CODAD propulsion system consisting of 4 Diesel Engines and 2 CPP Propellers. The OPV76, which can be equipped with different head cannons, remote-controlled weapon systems and wartime surface-to-surface, can be quickly adapted to the needs of users.
