The Mavi Marmara ship, which was attacked by Israeli commandos while carrying humanitarian aid to Palestine in 2010, was executed after it was cut down and converted into a cargo ship. Mavi Marmara, named Anatolian, was sold for 4 million 853 thousand liras due to the company’s debts.
The aid convoy to Palestine, organized by the Humanitarian Relief Foundation, set off in May 2010 with 6 ships. The main ship of the fleet was the Mavi Marmara, which contained 800 civilian and aid materials. In the morning of May 31, 2010, Israeli commandos landed on the ship in international waters. 10 civilians lost their lives on board and 60 others were injured. Israel paid 20 million dollars compensation to those who lost their lives on the ship 6 years later.
Became a cargo ship
Mavi Marmara, which was brought to Istanbul after the attack, was opened to visits as a museum for a while and then it was sold. Mavi Deniz Taşımacılık, which bought the ship, transformed the passenger ship into a cargo ship with a major renovation and named it Anatolian. The 93 meters long and 15.80 meters wide ship was used for transportation in Africa, where it suffered from pirate attacks.
Up for sale through execution
Due to the bankruptcy and debts of the Mavi Deniz Taşımacılık company, the Anatolia ship was abandoned in Mogadishu Port, Somalia. Istanbul Anatolian Executive Directorate put the Anatolian ship up for sale at the request of the company’s creditors. In the auction announcement recently published by the Anatolian 3rd Enforcement Office, it was announced that the ship named ‘Anatolian’, with a length of 93 meters and a width of 15.80 meters, would be sold for 3 million 888 thousand liras. It was stated in the announcement that the ship was in Mogadishu Port, the capital of Somalia, and its insurance value was 2 million dollars. In the announcement, it was stated that the ship’s equipment such as navigation, communication and other life safety protection were active, and it was also noted that the ship was attacked by piracy.
There are traces of attack
It was stated in the announcement that, “Despite the presence of armed guards on board and the response, the attack continued with both missiles and bullets, and finally, the attack ended with the arrival of the military guard ships. For this reason, there are traces of the attack on the ship. The physical condition of the ship is moderate, the refueling, the supply of provisions, the renewal of the certificates and the staffing of the ship will be possible by their own means.”. It was also stated that the cost of bringing the ship to Turkey was 320 thousand 220 dollars.
The Anatolian ship was sold to 2E Denizcilik for 4 million 853 thousand liras at the auction held the previous day.
