In the 8 months of this year, the amount of cargo handled at Turkish ports increased by 5.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 365 million 162 thousand tons, while the number of containers handled increased by 1.7 percent to 8 million 408 thousand TEUs.

Pointing out that maritime transport, which plays an important role in world trade, has developed in Türkiye in the last 20 years, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu said, “We are adding strength to our strength in Blue Homeland with the investments we have made in the maritime sector. We also see the contribution of these investments to the economy and our trade. In the January-August period, the amount of cargo handled at our ports increased by 5.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 365 million 162 thousand tons.
The number of containers handled increased by 1.7 percent in the same period and reached 8 million 408 thousand TEU. In the 8 months of 2022, foreign trade shipments increased by 4.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 264 million 644 thousand tons. While the number of ships calling at our ports was 597, the number of cruise passengers visiting our ports was 552 thousand 581. The number of vehicles transported on regular Ro-Ro lines with international connections increased by 13.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 475 thousand 326 units.
The number of containers handled in cabotage increased by 8.8 percent.
In August, the number of containers handled at the ports decreased by 1.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 1 million 40 thousand TEU. In August, the number of containers subject to foreign trade handled at the ports increased by 4.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 819 thousand 971 TEUs. Container loadings for export purposes increased by 3.3 percent to 416 thousand 904 TEUs, while container unloading for import purposes increased by 6.2 percent to 403 thousand 68 TEUs. The number of containers handled in cabotage increased by 8.8 percent to 78 thousand 299 TEUs. The number of transit containers handled decreased by 28.8 percent to 142 thousand 393 TEUs.
