The size of wind turbines has also increased with the development of technology. Dimensions reached up to 50-70 meters by driving piles into the sea. Today, there are 15-megawatt turbines with a blade diameter of 200-300 meters and a tower length of 200 meters. Turbines are built out of the land and into the sea because there is a never-ending wind in the seas.
“We work to bring quality energy to our country”
There is a trillion-dollar economy around us. We have about 12 gigawatts of potential in the Aegean Sea, which makes about 36 billion dollars. We have a potential of 60 gigawatts of floating power plants, which would make 180 billion dollars.
“Türkiye is located in a geography close to areas where offshore wind energy potential is high in the world”
There is a trend toward the diversification of green energy rapidly in the world and Türkiye, and the offshore wind energy market is growing faster than the onshore wind energy market. According to the Global Wind Energy Council, offshore wind power capacity will exceed the annual growth rate of 20 Gigawatts by 2025. In the same period, the share of offshore wind energy in total electricity installed power will increase to 20 percent. Türkiye is also located in geography close to areas where offshore wind energy potential is high in the world.
Our country has made great progress in installing, producing and supplying onshore wind turbines. This experience and potential can be combined with the maritime domain and become a supply base, including naval constructions. Countries that want to build an offshore wind farm can supply all their equipment from Türkiye. If we take the 1MW investment as 3 million Euros in this field, we are talking about investments reaching trillions of dollars and the supply chain, taking into account the potential in our country and surrounding countries.
“We want to draw the attention of the maritime industry”
We want to draw the attention of the maritime industry. Türkiye has made great progress in installing, producing and supplying onshore wind turbines. This experience and potential can be combined with the maritime domain and become a supply base, including naval constructions. Countries that want to build an offshore wind farm can supply all their equipment from Türkiye. We aim to reveal successful companies that will do the construction, lay cables under the sea, assemble the turbines, and establish electricity generation facilities.
“We are waiting for the target budget statement of our state”
We are waiting for the target budget statement of our state. For example, if we allocate a budget of 6 billion dollars until 2030, we will make 2 gigawatts. Greece has set a target of 2 gigawatts capacity in the Aegean Sea for offshore wind energy installation. We need to declare a similar target so that it will attract the attention of domestic and foreign investors, and an efficient investment environment and supply chain structures will be formed. The target announcement will attract more industry investors.
