Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, announced that the ship with asbestos from Brazil will not be allowed.
Minister Kurum said: “Despite being included in the notification requirement under the supervision of international independent audit institutions and audit teams of our Ministry, a second audit process is not carried out, because the ‘Hazardous Substances Inventory Report’, which should be prepared by showing the places where asbestos and other dangerous substances are found on the ship plan and photographing the sampling points, was not submitted to our Ministry. It has been decided to cancel the conditional notification approval given for the ship “NAE Sao Paulo”. In line with this decision, the ship will not be allowed to enter Turkish territorial waters.”
