The expansion of the trade volume between Türkiye and Russia and the difficulties experienced in land trade accelerated the start of ferry services between the two countries over the Black Sea.
According to the news in the Russian press, it was reported that Russia will start ferry services between the Port of Novorossiysk and Türkiye this month. It is also planned to increase the frequency of flights to two per week until the end of the month. The shift of a significant part of Russia’s imports to Türkiye makes it necessary to create alternative logistics routes.
Experts stated that with the safe operation of the grain corridor and the experience gained by the two countries, there is no obstacle to the opening of this route.
However, while the logistics sector representatives say that there is a great potential for ferry transportation between Türkiye and Russia, they remind that all the car ferries in Russia’s hands currently operate between the Crimean peninsula and Russia, and they draw attention to the fact that Russia does not have such ferries in the Black Sea.
In this case, it is expected that private companies from Türkiye will be moved to this area and encouraged to work on the new route.
Russia announced at the end of October that a new loading platform would be opened at the Port of Novorossiysk to serve ferries from Türkiye.
