The four new designs, which will be exclusive to UZMAR, will meet the demands of tug operators for the next generation of low emission tugs that they need to meet their CO2 reduction targets. The name of the new tug series running on methanol fuel will be announced very soon by UZMAR and Robert Allan Ltd.
Improved energy efficiency
In the agreement signed by UZMAR’s CEO Ahmet Noyan Altuğ and Robert Allan Ltd’s CEO Mike Fitzpatrick via video call on April 28, four new designs of the new series have a full length of between 26 meters and 32 meters and include a tractor tug design. The new methanol-fueled series will have improved energy efficiency and will be able to save significant annual CO2 emissions.
Fitzpatrick: “Milestone for us”
After signing Mike Fitzpatrick, “Signing these new design contracts with UZMAR is an exciting step for us. The collaboration between RAL and UZMAR for more than 25 years facilitates efficient knowledge transfer between our teams. I believe that we will successfully carry out and finalize this milestone project, as we have accomplished together many times in the past.”
The best alternative to fossil fuel
A.Noyan Altuğ said, “According to the results of our research that has continued for more than five years, our team believes that methanol is the most viable and efficient choice for tugs among alternative fuels to fossil fuels. With our long-standing friendship and mutual understanding with RAL, we have always successfully overcome challenging projects. Signing the contracts for this new methanol-powered design series exclusive to UZMAR is a big step towards a new era for all of us. We aim to start the construction of the tugs in the last quarter of 2022, and we will announce the design features in the coming days.”
UZMAR plans to replace all tugs in its fleet with environmentally friendly new builds and offer the global market a solution for sustainable low emissions needs.
