Marmaris International Race Week begins

In the statement made by Marmaris International Yacht Club (MIYC), it was stated that the race which has been held for 33 years is the highest participation sailing yacht race in the Eastern Mediterranean.

While thousands of sailors from around 30 countries have been hosted during the race week, it is stated that this year 1100 sailors from Türkiye, as well as Germany, USA, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Romania and Latvia, registered with 120 boats for the race week.

The sponsors of the races are Setur Marinas, Netsel Marina, Nexonya, and Marmaris Municipality. 80 of the boats in the fleet will compete in the IRC and 40 in the IRC Charter classes. While the Russians constitute the majority with 83 teams, the number of Turkish teams is 16, including Arkas Blue Moon (MAT 1220) and Vakkorama (Farr 40) from İzmir.

Powerful boats

Meanwhile, the new and powerful boats in the Russian crews draw attention. JPK 1080, JPK 1180, a Ker 40 that launched this year, Farr 42, Farr 45, Vismara 46, and ClubSwan 42 to name a few. Some Russian teams will also join the fight with Lemon (MAT 12), Team Spirit (MAT 1180), and Izmir Yelken (MAT 1010), which they rented in Türkiye.

In the 33rd Marmaris International Race Week, which will be hosted by Netsel Marina, a total of 6 races, one of which is an Offshore route, are targeted in five race days. Due to the crowdedness of the Fion, the tracks of the IRC and IRC Charter classes will be set up alternately in Marmaris Bay and outside the Marmaris Strait, as in previous years. Post-race events and award ceremonies will be held in a giant 1500 m2 tent to be set up in Netsel Marina.
