Seaspan ULC has announced that the world’s first fully-electric harbour tug, HaiSea Wamis, left Sanmar Shipyards in Türkiye late last week and is officially en route to Vancouver.
As previously reported, the vessel is one of three fully-electric tugboats being built for HaiSea Marine. The company, which is majority owned by the Haisla Nation in partnership with Seaspan ULC, will also be taking delivery of two LNG dual-fuel tugs.
HaiSea Marine has a major contract with LNG Canada to build and operate escort and harbour tugs required for their export facility in Kitimat.
A naming ceremony for the vessels, which were designed by naval architect company Robert Allan Ltd., was held in March. The other four vessels in the fleet were named HaiSea Wee’giti, HaiSea Brave, HaiSea Warrior and HaiSea Kermode.
