The first sheet metal cutting of the 94.8 m long ferry, which will be built by Cemre Shipyard for CMAL and planned to serve between Clyde and Hebrides, one of the busiest service routes, took place on 03.10.2022 with the participation of CMAL.
According to the contract signed between Cemre Shipyard and CMAL in April, the ferry will operate on the busiest line in the Clyde and Hebrides network, and the ship with a capacity of 275 lane-meters on the main deck for heavy vehicles will have the capacity to carry a total of 107 vehicles on the main deck and moving deck.
With these new ferries to be built, CMAL aims to increase the cargo and vehicle capacity by 40 percent on the Islay and Jura lines, and significantly reduce its carbon footprint thanks to its diesel/hybrid propulsion system.
CMAL’s CEO, Kevin Hobbs, in his speech at the sheet metal cutting ceremony: “CMAL has established a significant investment program in the refurbishment of 21 ships over the next 10 years, and we hope this will bring new construction projects with it in the coming months.”
Jim Anderson, the Projects Coordinator of CMAL, made the touch to start the ship’s construction process by pressing the CNC button.
This ship, which is expected to reduce its carbon footprint, was designed as a concept design by NaValue and CMAL’s design team for the tender process. Cemre Shipyard continued its subsequent design and development phases with LMG Marin AS.
