Norway’s most active asset player, Atlantica Shipping, can celebrate the upcoming Norwegian national day in style, as the Oslo-based owner is proceeding with its fifth highly profitable MR sale since December.
This time, Atlantica is pocketing some $22m on the 53,000 dwt Atlantica Brave, a 15-year-old tanker it paid some $13m for two years ago. The four other deals in recent months follow the same earning and buying pattern. Brokers report the latest deal as sold to undisclosed Turkish interests.
Local investors and famous shipping names such as Egon Oldendorff and A. M. Nomikos, who are behind the company, will have had some bumper earnings this year. Some of the earnings will be used to pay for Atlantica’s first bulker purchase this year, reported by Splash a week ago. The company has just tabled just under $16m for the 14-year-old Mitsui Tamano-built supramax Kitakami.
