The 4th exhibition of Artist Ayşen Can, who lived on a dry cargo ship for six years and traveled to more than 30 countries, is preparing to meet with art lovers.
The highlight of the exhibition, which will start on December 11, 2021 and continue until December 25, 2021, at The Bosphorus House Istanbul in Üsküdar, is the highlight of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, while he was inside in The Kartal Steamboat, pointing to the enemy ships and said “As they have come, so they will go”. The Kartal Steamboat was found lying on its side in Tuzla many years later. She was rescued by a platform made up of volunteers and restored in accordance with its original form.
Artist Ayşen Can stated that she named her work, “As they have come, so they will go”, which includes The Kartal Steamboat, which Atatürk painted under his deep and self-confident gaze. She wanted to show once again the importance of the seas to Turkey in these days when the Blue Homeland is on the agenda.
The sea gives determination and courage
Stating that she lived on a dry cargo ship for six years with Captain Mustafa Can and visited more than 30 countries by crossing the oceans, Can said, “The uncertainty of the sea forces you to be ready at any moment, increasing your determination and courage. This is such an ambiguity that you can only paint with charcoal on the ship. The rise of the sun after a long darkness seems like the good news of a second birth. For this reason, I sometimes depict ships grappling with huge waves and sometimes sailboats floating in calm waters.
Main topic is sea and sailor states
In Can’s works so far, triumphant galleys, the Atlantic Ocean separating the continents, the ever-growing global warming, the sailing of a sailboat, sailors longing for their home, the peace and tranquility of the sea, the sailing of ships, deserted islands, a mermaid, a lighthouse focuses on topics such as the lost continent of Atlantis, boats and boulder. Two works of the artist, which she prepared for her last exhibition, were also used as patterns on 500 scarves. The income from the sale of these scarves will be transferred to Çankırı Foundation and ITU Maritime Faculty Foundation to be used as scholarships for students.
Two of her works are in the naval museum
Can’s works are in the private collections of many art lovers in Turkey and around the world. Can, whose two works are in the permanent collection of the naval museum, continues her works at her own Şen Atölye in Istanbul and also gives painting lessons.
