Narlıdere Municipality is implementing a giant project worth 150 million liras for the marina where private yachts will anchor, which is the biggest shortcoming of the coastal city İzmir. The marina with a capacity of 240 boats between 8 meters and 30 meters will be built in the Sahilevleri region. Narlıdere Mayor Ali Engin said, “We will implement our project that will change the fate of İzmir with the ‘Build-Operate-Transfer’ model. We are going to tender for the project in 2023.”
The marina project in the city center, which İzmir has been dreaming of for years, is coming true. Narlıdere Municipality pressed the button for the marina project in the Sahilevleri region, where 240 private motor yachts ranging in length from 8 meters to 30 meters can anchor at the same time. For the marina, for which the project tender was made about 1 year ago, a construction tender will be made in 2023. The marina, which will be built in the Sahilevleri region within the borders of Narlıdere, one of the most special areas of İzmir, will change the fate of the city. İzmir, which has not been able to get the share it deserves from tourism for years, will become the place where private yachts with Turkish and foreign flags will turn their course with its marina. The marina will also have the most modern wedding hall and tennis courts in İzmir.
Ground studies will be done
Stating that the project processes of the marina will be completed by the end of the year, Narlıdere Mayor Ali Engin said, “We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation. The project tender is over, and the institution’s opinions are received. In these months, we got permission from the transportation and infrastructure coordination board, a ship is coming to conduct ground studies, which will be conducted at approximately 15 locations. I guess at the end of this year the project and license procedures will be completed. We will go out to tender with the Build-Operate-Transfer method. We are not against this model. It is practiced in many countries of the world. The important thing is to invest in the service. Of course, you should not harm the state or the municipality. We will bid at a realistic, competitive price. We are planning to go out to tender next year, in 2023.”
‘150 million liras investment’
Stating that the Sahilevleri will become a tourism center with the construction of the marina, President Ali Engin said, “The marina will have a capacity of 240 yachts. We will also build the most modern wedding hall in İzmir. There will also be eating and drinking areas in the marina. We will close the coastal area to traffic. We open the 17-meter Levent Street at the back. We will turn this place into a tourism center. It will be an extremely environmentally friendly project. It will be a transparent tender, everyone can participate next year. The investment cost is around 100-150 million liras. Our one-year budget. We can’t do this, but when it does, the revenue will be left to the municipality. We are also building a tennis court.”
