Sanmar Shipyard completed the steel cutting of 3 tugs to be built for HaiSea Marine. The tugs to be built for HaiSea Marine, the majority of which are owned by Seaspan ULC and a partner of Haisla Nation, will provide vessel assistance and escort towing services to LNG carriers.
Three state-of-the-art electric battery-powered tugs with 70 tons of pulling power to be built to serve the LNG Canada project were designed by Vancouver-based Robert Allan Ltd. It will be the most powerful Azimuth Stern Drive escort tugs on the west coast of Canada and will be among the highest-performing escort tugs in the world.
The first-in-class ElectRA 2800SX harbor tugs, with a length of 28 meters, a towing capacity of approximately 70 tons, and a battery capacity of 6000 kWh each, will perform all ship berthing and berthing tasks with purely electric power.
The ElectRA 2800 port tugs, which will operate at LNG Canada’s new export facility, will be premium battery-electric tugs designed to perform normal ship berthing and berthing duties using battery electric power. The ElectRA 2800 harbor tugs will have a length of 28 meters, a mast towing of approximately 70 tons, and a battery capacity of approximately 5240 kWh.
With the abundant clean hydroelectric power available at Kitimat, port tugs will be able to recharge from dedicated shore charging facilities at their docks between jobs, effectively resulting in zero emissions. These eco-friendly tugs represent the future.
