Agalas said that the new vessel, designed by NSK Ship Design, would be a subsea support vessel catering to the growing activity in offshore energy markets and the need for green assets amongst the traditional offshore players.
According to Agalas, it will be the world’s first green offshore subsea vessel in its category, utilizing methanol dual fuel and battery propulsion to reduce emissions by up to 70%.
The company explained that the vessel was scheduled for delivery in 2025, timed to align with an anticipated market upswing. The newbuild will be constructed by Sefine Shipyard in Turkey.
The vessel offers accommodations for 100 personnel, a 150-ton AHC crane, dedicated ROV hangars, a helideck, and a large open deck.
Agalas’ first vessel, ordered in December 2022, was a cable layer also designed by NSK Ship Design. Like this one, it will be built by Sefine Shipyard and is scheduled for delivery in 2025. Cable contractor Cecon secured the right to hire the vessel upon delivery.
As for Agalas, the company was formed last year and is owned by NSK Ship Design, Ytterstad Fiskeriselskap, and Kransvik Kystfiske – the latter two being players in the fishing industry.
