As Teos Marina, it uses green energy voluntarily. The green energy use of Teos Marina, the marina operator operating in the touristic district of Izmir, Seferihisar Sığacık, has been documented with the Renewable Energy Source Guarantee Certificate.
Green energy sales started with the Energy Markets Operation Joint Stock Company renewable energy resource guarantee Certificate to promote the use of renewable energy sources in electricity production and consumption and to protect the environment. Teos Marina has become one of the pioneers in the use of renewable energy in Turkey. The hydroelectric energy use of Teos Marina, which prefers a low-carbon, environmentally friendly business, and supply chain management with its sustainability approach, has been certified with a green energy certificate.
The RES-G system, which realizes all of its electricity production in Turkey from renewable resources, offers the energy it produces to individual and corporate members and consumers who want to use it. Participation in the RES-G System takes place “voluntarily”.
Contribution to the goal of a ‘carbon-free continent’
The Paris Climate Agreement, which is one of the biggest steps taken in the fight against global warming to date, sets a global framework for preventing climate change by aiming to keep the global temperature increase below 2 °C compared to the pre-industrial period, preferably limiting it to 1.5 °C.
EU countries presented a policy package that aims to reduce carbon emissions by 55% until 2030 and to transform the European economy to become a “carbon-free continent” in 2050 with the EU Green Agreement. The Paris Agreement was also ratified by Turkey on 6 October 2021 in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. A new era has begun in Turkey’s climate policy with the adoption of the net-zero emission target by 2053, which is a positive step for Turkey to become a party to the Agreement.
investment is a must in natural resources
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it is first necessary to set short-term climate targets. Turkey’s phasing out of fossil fuels, ending the existing fossil fuel support and incentives, and allocating all public resources to renewable energy investments, especially solar and wind, necessary infrastructure works for this, and fair transformation plans that will cover all segments are emerging as priority issues.
Like every nation, companies are expected to take their responsibilities in the fight against climate change. Companies with high carbon emissions need to develop strategies to reduce their carbon emissions to fulfill their responsibilities to the environment.
