Borusan Port, which has pioneered work on occupational health and safety, makes working areas safer with the help of digital transformation. The institution, which creates a safe space for both its employees and its suppliers with the Borusan Port SafeCard they have implemented, also rewards its suppliers who exhibit exemplary behavior on OHS.
Borusan Port, one of the Borusan Group companies, comprehensively addresses the issue of occupational health and safety and offers a safer working environment to its employees with the Borusan Port SafeCard, which began last year using IoT technologies. It is aimed that employees and equipment work at safe distances from each other with Borusan Port SafeCard, while the application defines the maximum distances that employees and equipment can approach each other If the distance limits set by these definitions are exceeded, the system gives a warning via vibration. The application, which also provides control of the social distance between employees, creates a safer work environment during the pandemic period. At the same time, it is aimed to determine the employees in the assembly areas in case of emergency and to minimize the response time by instantly transmitting warnings to the control points in case of emergencies such as being immobile or falling.
Sectoral development was achieved by raising awareness
While Borusan Port shared the occupational safety rules, which are critical in preventing occupational accidents, with the employees under the title of “Our 10 Basic Rules”, it also commissioned field tours with operation managers to minimize unsafe behavior, which is one of the biggest causes of occupational accidents. Borusan Port, which has prepared the Port OHS and Environmental Management Guide to create a healthier and safer workplace for its suppliers, provided a total of 8,385 hours of Occupational Health and Safety training in 2021 while meeting legal requirements and increasing employee awareness, making significant progress in the sector. Also rewarded its suppliers who acted exemplary in the field of OHS, determined KPIs such as the number of accidents, non-compliance report, compliance with the laws and Borusan Port standards, and evaluated the year 2021 according to these criteria and thanked the supplier companies Eksen Makine and Securitas, which fully complied with all the criteria. The plaques were presented to the brands by the Port Operations Director Kazım Keskin.
The use of the SafeCard application will expand
Borusan Port General Manager Hamdi Erçelik stated that they will expand the SafeCard application in the coming periods. Suppliers making short-term entrances and exits to the port will also expand the application in a way that will allow the use of SafeCard, to the end of 2022. “The safety of our employees, suppliers, and porters is of great concern to us. We will continue to take pioneering steps in OHS issues and make a difference in our industry with digital transformation and technology support.”
