The RAmpage 6000 tug KOC Al Zour, built by Uzmar Shipyard for Kuwait Oil Company, was named the “best oil spill response tug” by Baird Maritime.
In a statement from Robert Allan Ltd (RAL), the designer of the tug, “KOC Al Zour is the largest RAL vessel built in Turkey, as well as oil spill response, oil spill prevention and recovery, area surveillance and she is a versatile and multi-purpose vessel equipped to undertake operations such as offshore firefighting. It successfully performs logistics supply duties, towing services, other offshore services, and salvage operations in Kuwait and nearby international waters.
The largest ship of her kind built in Turkey, KOC Al Zour was designed according to Lloyd’s Register class standards. The ship performs duties in international waters and Kuwait’s exclusive economic zone that includes area surveillance, offshore firefighting, logistics supply duties, push and pull services, offshore support services, search and rescue, and other related activities.
Also equipped with extensive oil spill response equipment, the ship has a special tank to store oil spilled into the sea and advanced technology equipment specifically designed for sea cleanup.
The tug can reach a maximum speed of 13 knots with two Yanmar main diesel engines producing 1,620 kW each, with a length of 60 meters and a width of 14 meters.
