TCG Savarona, nicknamed the White Swan, which is considered as the trust and spiritual legacy of the Great Leader, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was delivered to the Istanbul Shipyard Command by the Naval Forces Command for maintenance and repair on 19 September 2023.
The national heritage ship , which Istanbul Shipyard Commander Rear Admiral Erdinç Yetkin said in April 2024, was nearing the end of the work and would soon meet the sea, sailed to the Blue Homeland on 19 July 2024 for its first voyage.
The ship, where Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed for fifty days before his flight, was scrapped in 1989 and taken over by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2013.
The white swan, which was taken over by the Naval Forces Command in 2019, was taken into care in 2023 to be reunited with its home and preserve Atatürk’s legacy.
After many years of intensive maintenance and repair work by the Istanbul Shipyard Command, the ship met the sea and will now serve as the training ship of the Naval Academy.
TCG Savarona had the title of the world’s largest yacht when it was gifted to Atatürk on February 23, 1938. The ship, which is 124 meters long and 16 meters wide, is still among the largest ships in the world with its capacity to accommodate 44 crew members.
