The cargo ship Snow Stars, owned by Istanbul-based Rana Shipping, was banned from entering Europe for three months by the Pais MOU after failing its safety inspection for the third time in two years.
The 5,390 dwt, 1996-built Snow Stars was detained in Aveiro, Portugal, in June 2024 and held for 13 days with 16 deficiencies.
During the inspection, it was stated that the ship was not familiar with the global maritime hazard and safety system equipment and that the steering equipment was malfunctioning, on which deficiencies such as crew certificates were not required, fire drills were not checked and oil filtering equipment was not properly maintained.
It was reported that the ship, which is currently in Africa, was previously held in Germany for four days in March 2023 with 23 deficiencies, and in January 2024 in Belgium for 27 days with 44 deficiencies.
