The Dardanelles was closed to transit ships in both directions due to thick fog. The fog caused a decrease in the visibility at the sea which increased its effectiveness in the region towards morning.
It was announced by the Dardanelles Ship Traffic Services Directorate that the captains of the ships entering from the north and south were warned by radio and that the strait was closed to two-way transit ships.
It was stated that after the fog wore off, ship traffic would return to normal.
