The Bosphorus is one of the dangerous waterways due to its curved structure and hard turns. The task of providing security falls to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and the pilots.
The rudder of some was locked, and the engine of others broke down. From time to time, the Coastal Safety crews used tugs as a trench so that the drifting ships would not hit the shore and affect maritime safety.
More than 2,000 personnel of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety are on duty at any time with 103 sea vehicles. In the institution, 179 pilots guide giant ships to ensure the safety of passage.
According to the news in TRT Haber, one of those who put their lives in danger, long-distance captain Cem Savrunlu, explained that they take charge of planned works in case of emergency and that they provide services such as grounding, machine failure, rudder failure that they can handle in a short time.
