The Mavi Karadeniz ferry was sold, which served as a city line ferry in the Bosphorus for many years and then sent to Trabzon as a pleasure boat but delivered to the Beşikdüzü Municipality by the Metropolitan Municipality due to the high cost of travel.
The Mavi Karadeniz Ship, which was brought to Beşikdüzü in the previous municipal administration period in Trabzon, was sold with a tender. Beşikdüzü Municipality went out to tender for the Mavi Karadeniz Ship, which was previously intended to be operated as a cafeteria or restaurant in the port of Beşikdüzü, but the relevant institutions did not give consent.
“We had to put her up for sale”
It was reported that a total of 15 companies participated in the tender, which was held with the open tender method. As a result of the tender, the ship was sold for 4 million 850 thousand TL. It is not yet known what kind of savings the new owner will make about the ship.
Ramis Uzun, Beşikdüzü Mayor, reminded us that the Mavi Karadeniz ship had been featured in the media before and said, “We had to put the ship up for sale. We wanted to operate the ship where it is by putting it out to tender to operate the ship as a cafeteria and restaurant. For this, we asked opinions from various institutions. The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture has decided that she cannot be allowed except for Maritime Transport and Fisheries. Then we evaluated the situation.”
The ship started to rust
Expressing that the ship started to rust at this time, Uzun said, “However, the ship started to rust during this time. It turned out that there was a need for repair maintenance. We had the ship examined by the Chamber of Ship Engineers. They also confirmed it. Vakfikebir Port Authority made an investigation for us. It was stated that the ship is currently holding the rust from the bottom and is leaning on her side at 1- 2 percent. They also said that the ship started to take on water. Opinion was given to withdraw it to the shipyard. That’s why we put the ship up for sale.
We did not have a chance to do the repair and maintenance. We put the ship out to tender with the report of the naval engineers and the reports we received from the independent appraisals we brought from Istanbul. There were 15 participants in the tender. As a result of the open tender, the ship was sold for 4 million 850 thousand TL. As you know, the ship was the property of the municipality. I hope it will be good.”
Brought to Trabzon by Gümrükçüoğlu
The story of the Mavi Karadeniz Ship is quite remarkable. The ship was first brought to Trabzon by the mayor of Trabzon, Orhan Fevzi Gümrükçüoğlu.
At that time, when there was great interest in Trabzon Municipality’s cruise ship on the beach in Trabzon, this ship wanted to be renewed with a larger one.
However, when the costs of the Mavi Karadeniz Ship were too high and they could not meet these expenses during the voyages, the ship became unable to make a voyage.
Finally, the ship was taken from Trabzon Municipality and brought to Beşikdüzü by the Mayor of Beşikdüzü, Orhan Bıçakçıoğlu. The ship that was pulled into the port here could not meet the sea again…
