The Coastal Cruise Ship Havila Capella, built at Tersan Shipyard for Norwegian Havila Voyages, won the Nor-Shipping 2022 Next Generation Ship Award. Havila Voyages received the award at the Open Leadership Conference on the first day of Nor-Shipping 2022, which took place this week (4-7 April) in Oslo and Lillestrøm.
In the statement made by the jury that awarded Havila Capella, “Havila Capella is currently working with LNG, but the ship is designed for the transition to hydrogen in the future. When the ship arrives and stays in port, it uses the world’s largest battery during delivery, allowing the ship to sail for four hours without starting the engine. Havila Capella is a truly innovative vessel and worthy of the Nor-Shipping 2022 Next Generation Ship Award.”
Features of Havila Capella
Havila Capella, built at Tersan Shipyard, was delivered to Norway last November. Havila Capella is 124 meters long and 22 meters wide.
Havila Capella was built as a vessel that provides high energy efficiency with LNG and batteries and meets low emission requirements. It has a battery capacity of 6500 kWh, which means that it is the ship with the largest battery capacity in the world so far. Thanks to its innovative power generation system and energy-efficient hull design, Havila Capella can cruise continuously for four hours with zero emissions. The ship is charged with hydroelectric power at the quay.
Built under the supervision of DNV, Havila Capella provides a 25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions and a 90 percent reduction in NOx emissions. In addition, Havila Capella is a ship equipped with advanced recycling technologies, with heat recovery systems from the sea and cooling water.
