Kuzey Star Shipyard delivered the first of two LNG-powered Ro-Ro ships built for Russia’s FSUE Rosmorport company. The Ro-Ro named Mareşal Rokossovsky, which left Tuzla at the beginning of January 2022 and set off for the Russian Port of Baltiysk, reached the Baltic Sea, where she will operate.
Mareşal Rokossovsky, with a length of 199 meters, is in the Arc4 ice-class and has two dual-fuel main engines running on LNG. Low-sulfur diesel fuel can also be used onboard.
Ordered by FSUE Rosmorport, the ferry was built by the Nevsky Shipyard LLC in cooperation with The Kuzey Star Shipyard. The design of the vessel belongs to SPb LLC.
The ship, delivered by Kuzey Star Shipyard, will operate on the Ust – Luga – Baltic route, which has strategic importance for Russia. Mareşal Rokossovsky also has the distinction of being the first Ro-Ro to work with LNG in Russia. She will be able to carry wagons as well as cars and trucks.
FSUE Rosmorport company will further strengthen its fleet with another Ro-Ro ship, General Chernyakhovsky, currently under construction at Kuzey Star Shipyard and scheduled to be delivered later this year.
By adding two new ferries to its fleet, FSUE Rosmorpot aims to ease the transportation of the Kaliningrad region and to transfer some of the cargo traffic passing through the territory of neighboring countries to Russian territory.
