Sefine Shipyard organized a steel cutting ceremony for the offshore construction support vessel, the contract for which it signed with Norway-based Agalas in December 2023.
A world first in its field
While Cecon Contracting and NSK Ship Design worked together for the design of the vessel, it was learned that the new marine vessel will be the world’s first green offshore vessel in its category with methanol and battery. It was reported that carbon emissions from the ship will thus be reduced by 70 percent.
The ship, which will be able to carry 100 passengers, will have a 150-ton AHC crane, ROV hangar and helipad. The 5,000 dwt ship is 99.99 meters long and 21 meters wide.
Agalas was founded in 2022 by NSK Ship Design, Ytterstad Fiskeriselskap and Kransvik Kystfiske. While NSK Ship Design provides marine vehicle design services, the other two companies operate in the fishing sector.
A contract was previously signed for the methanol-fueled cable ship Sefine Agalas in November 2022 and the first steel was cut in August 2023. This was the first order Sefine received from the company.
