Energy supplier Aytemiz Makelsan, together with Istanbul Beylikdüzü-based port operator Mardaş, will realize shore-to-ship electricity supply systems with domestic and national devices for the first time in Turkey, within the scope of the “Green Port Project”.
With the Cold Ironing system, when ships connect to ports, they will turn off their generators and get the electricity they need from the shore. Thus, carbon emissions will be reduced.
Soğut Anchorage is also included in the action plan to combat toxic gases in blue waters caused by the use of fossil fuels, published by the World Maritime Organization (IMO) at the beginning of 2023.
Thanks to the system that reduces ship resource emissions and makes ports preferred, ships will avoid paying heavy taxes to the EU.
Within the scope of the project supported by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, a regulation was published and many incentives were given, such as license period extension for Green Ports.
