The investigation report on the port expansion project of Ford Otosan, which operates on a total area of 1 million 348 thousand square meters in Kocaeli Başiskele, was sent to the EIA commission. The EIA process of the project, which involves filling an area of 248 thousand 349 square meters and adding three dolphins, started in May 2023. It was announced that the review and evaluation phase has been reached in the ongoing process.
Works to be implemented within the scope of the project
Within the scope of the works that Ford Otosan started three years ago, in addition to filling, there is also dredging and increasing the pier capacity. This 3 billion investment will proceed in the east and west directions of Başiskele pier and the filling works will cover an area of 248 thousand 349 square meters. The dredging works, which will start from the edge of the filling areas, are planned to be carried out in an area of 19 thousand 561 square meters.
It is planned to expand the pier by 4 thousand 819 square meters and the pier is planned to be 12 thousand 16 square meters in total. Three dolphins will be built for capacity increase and the total number of dolphins will be five.
EIA review continues
The project evaluation result, which came to the Review and Evaluation Commission following the EIA application in May 2023, will be announced on October 2. General Directorate of Environmental Impact Assessment, Permitting and Inspection stated the following on the subject:
“Ford OTOMOTİV SANAYİ A.Ş. within the borders of Başiskele district of Kocaeli province. The EIA Report prepared regarding the port (Pier and Backfield Revision, Additional Dolfen) project planned to be carried out by has been submitted to our Ministry within the scope of Article 11 of the EIA Regulation and the review and evaluation process has started. The İDK meeting regarding the project will be held on 02/10/2024.”
