Haisea Kermode, the fourth tugboat built by Sanmar Shipyards for Canada’s Haisea Marine , was named tug of the year at the International Tug & Salvage Congress (ITS) held in Dubai.
The tugboat, which is 40 meters long and 16 meters wide, has a pulling force of more than 100 tons. Capable of running on diesel or LNG, Haisea Kermode has a diesel exhaust aftertreatment system that complies with IMO Tier III emissions standards, the most stringent standard in the international maritime industry. With the ability to perform long-distance escort missions using only LNG, the tug will significantly reduce emissions, particularly carbon emissions, compared to Tier III standards. Compared to conventional diesel tugs of the same power, Haisea Kermode delivers significant emissions reductions.
Evaluating the award, Sanmar Shipyards Chairman Ali Gürün said, “We are very proud to take part in this project to create the world’s most environmentally friendly tugboat fleet. I am very happy that HAISEA KERMODE received this award. Building tugboats that won tug of the year two years in a row is a great achievement. “This tugboat is also proof that protecting the environment does not require loss of strength or power”
