The classic sailboat named Sultan, belonging to the veteran of the press world and sea lover Necati Zincirkıran, who introduced amateur seafaring to our country, was added to the Rahmi M. Koç Museum Maritime Collection with a ceremony held within the scope of the “Seventh Classic Boats Meeting” organized by the Classic Boats Platform.
The “Seventh Classic Boats Meeting”, which brought together the beautiful classic boats of our seas, was held at the Kalamış Marina on Sunday, September 8.
At the event, 20 classic boats that have lost none of their beauty despite the passing years were introduced to sea lovers. The classic boats, which are the symbol of our country’s maritime culture and passion for the sea and are a cultural heritage, took sea enthusiasts into a time tunnel.
The event, organized by the Classic Boats Platform established within the Koç University Maritime Forum (KÜDENFOR) to keep our important heritage of sea culture alive and to ensure that seafaring is recognized and embraced by all segments of society, was held in cooperation with the Rahmi M. Koç Museum, Istanbul Sailing Club, Hamit Naci Mavi Vatan Foundation, Tuzla Sailing and Water Sports Club, Tuzla Yacht Club, DAKSAR (Search and Rescue at Sea), Ship Lovers and Modelers Association, Moda Deniz Club, Kalamış Sailing Club and Marmara Sailing Club.
In a ceremony held at the event, the classic sailboat named Sultan, belonging to Necati Zincirkıran, the veteran of the press world and a sea lover who introduced amateur seafaring to our country, was added to the Rahmi M. Koç Museum Maritime Collection.
The Seventh Classic Boats Meeting ended with a tour of the boats exhibited at the Kalamış Marina and the presentation of plaques of appreciation to their owners. In the industrializing world, the classic boats built with great care, craftsmanship and great attention to detail later set sail in Kalamış Bay for the purpose of “reviving the lost culture”.
