The name of Pilot Captain Oğuz Kök, who fell into the sea while joining the ship to provide pilotage service and was martyred , was given to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM) Gelibolu Pilotage Station with a ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by Martyr Kök’s wife Kamile Kök and her children, Gelibolu District Governor Bekir Abacı, Gallipoli Mayor Ali Kemal Soyuak, Gelibolu Police Chief Ahmet Karaca, Coast Guard West Marmara Group Commander SG. Lieutenant Colonel Ercan Oran, Coast Guard General Manager Mustafa Bankaoğlu, Turkish Pilots Association (TKKD) Chairman Kapt Muhammer Arslantürk and Vice President Kapt H Sedat Oğuz attended.
“This is your home”
Making a speech at the ceremony, Coastal Police General Director Mustafa Bankaoğlu addressed the family of martyr Kök and said, “This place is the memory of your father. “This is your home,” he said. TKKD Chairman of the Board Capt. Muhammer Arslantürk said that martyr Kök’s life is a symbol of a life dedicated to the maritime profession and our country.
Arslantürk said, “Our brother Oğuz Kök has been an example to his colleagues and us with his courage, knowledge and sacrifice throughout his life. Despite the difficult conditions and dangers at sea, he performed his profession with great devotion and prioritized human life and maritime safety above all else. “His perseverance and determination will continue to inspire us,” he said.

“On this meaningful day, we have come together to honor the memory of Captain Oğuz Kök. The values that this structure bearing his name will bring to the maritime world will inspire our young pilots and contribute to their professional development. Those who contributed to this important project that allowed us to gather here; “I would like to thank everyone, especially Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Durmuş Ünüvar and Coastal Police General Manager Mustafa Bankaoğlu.”
