Marmara Sea 2024 Summer Expedition of the “Marine Integrated Pollution Monitoring (DEN-İZ) Program”, supported by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and carried out by TÜBİTAK MAM Climate Change and Sustainability Vice Presidency Marine Research and Technologies Research Group, 31 July It started in and was completed on 11 August.
150 different experts took part in the project, which was carried out with the main aim of conducting chemical and ecological analysis and evaluations on microplastic and garbage parameters in order to ensure ecological balance in seawater and open sea areas, especially coastal water in the seas. At the end of the 2024 summer season Marmara Sea Expedition of the program, which is carried out in cooperation with 15 different research institutions, universities and public institutions; 150 stations, 40 phytoplankton, 13 zooplankton, 6 jelly fish and 32 macrozoobenthos, as well as 14 microplastics, 53 sediments and finally 2 radioactivity samples were carried out.
The samples taken will be examined by TÜBİTAK MAM experts and experts from the marine sciences and aquaculture faculties of universities.
