Yacht and Boat Industry Association (YATED) launched the liquid waste collection boat named ‘YATED-1’, which was implemented with an investment of 300 thousand Euros, in Bodrum on 27 June to prevent pollution that may occur in the seas. Making evaluations on the subject, YATED Chairman of the Board of Directors Murat Bekiroğlu said, “Our boat will collect liquid waste from yachts and boats in the bays. As YATED, we want to draw attention to one of the biggest problems of our country with the boat we built. We are trying to do our best to ensure that the blueness of the seas does not fade by providing a cleaner and healthier marine environment. The boat we launched has a capacity to collect 20 thousand liters of liquid waste. We have no profit target with this boat. We aim to increase the number of these boats built with the support of our sponsors”
The liquid waste collection boat, which was announced by the Yacht and Boat Industry Association (YATED) last year, was launched with a ceremony in Bodrum on June 27. Bodrum District Governor Mustafa Çit, Aegean Sea Regional Commander Rear Admiral Serkan Tezel, South Aegean Group Commander Lieutenant Colonel Akın Coşkunlar, Bodrum Coast Guard Commander Raşit Gödelek, Bodrum Deputy Mayor Yaşar Çelikkan, YATED Management attended the ceremony hosted by YATED Chairman Murat Bekiroğlu. Board members and many guests attended.
The 100 percent domestic boat named ‘YATED 1’, which has the capacity to collect 20 thousand liters of liquid waste at a time, is 4.20 meters wide and 11.5 meters long.
The boat will first operate in Hisarönü Gulf, Göcek Gulf, Gökova Bay, Bodrum, Marmaris and Datça. Stating that, as YATED, they have commissioned ‘YATED 1’ in order to protect the seas, which are the most important wealth of our country and our industry, and to contribute to sustainability, YATED Chairman Murat Bekiroğlu said, “Our boat will collect liquid waste from yachts and boats in the bays. As YATED, we want to draw attention to one of the biggest problems of our country with the boat we built. “We are trying to do our best to ensure that the blueness of the seas does not fade by providing a cleaner and healthier marine environment”
Investment of 300 thousand Euros
Underlining that they announced this project on the first day they took office as YATED management last year, Murat Bekiroğlu said, “As the 25th anniversary of YATED’s establishment approaches, we see the liquid waste collection boat as one of the most important social responsibility projects implemented. Our boat was built entirely with the support of YATED and our companies. A total investment of 300 thousand Euros was made. We can say that it is one of the largest in Turkey in terms of liquid waste collection capacity among fiber boats. Apart from all these, 4 solar panels were installed on our YATED – 1 boat as part of the importance we attach to environmental sustainability and renewable energy. The energy produced by the panels will cover the electricity consumption of electronic devices such as televisions, refrigerators, computers, printers, radios, microwave ovens and stoves, as well as navigation devices. We have also created an environment where those working on the boat can feel comfortable. We have no profit target with this boat. We will create a pricing policy accordingly. We wanted to have a pricing that would prevent boats from dumping their liquid waste into the sea. We will encourage boat and yacht owners. It will be a boat that will operate with an appointment system. We create a route and aim to collect maximum waste. From now on, we will make more efforts to keep our seas clean by commissioning new boats”
