It was learned that Ankara-based contracting company Metag Holding signed an agreement to expand Somalia’s historic Hobyo Port.
According to information obtained by HaberDenizde.com; Metag will operate the port for 80 years with the agreement it made with Hobyo Investment Company.
It was reported that the aim of the project is to transform the settlement with a population of 11 thousand into a regional trade center, to provide an alternative exit route to Ethiopia and Djibouti and to reduce the congestion of Mogadishu Port.
The project also aims to facilitate Somalia’s exports of live animals, bananas and other agricultural products, which are the main export items to the Middle East.
