France Gas Maritime’s Director Julide Yaşar and Turkish Shipowners Association’s Secretary General Hüseyin Çınar held a meeting about the future marine fuels.
Julide Yaşar gave detailed information on the importance of LNG and the reduction of carbon emissions.
The availability of LNG infrastructure has made LNG an alternative fuel in the short term
Julide Yaşar stated that LNG is a good alternative since it reduces carbon emissions by up to 25% and many shipowners have switched to LNG. In terms of regulation, she stated that the availability of the LNG infrastructure makes LNG an alternative fuel in the short term.
Julide Yaşar stated that LNG has gained momentum in larger segments in container ships, for example, there is a container operator that currently runs nearly 50 ships with LNG fuel, methanol is also in the trials of the same operator, and LNG Bunkering in France has started very recently.
Julide Yaşar and Hüseyin Çınar also compared notes on the report titled “Alternative fuels prospects in the maritime sector energy transition” compiled by France Gaz Maritime and “E-fuels for Maritime Applications” prepared by Engie Impact.
Finally, the issues of how this type of formation and cooperation can be made in the Turkish Maritime Sector were discussed between Julide Yaşar and Hüseyin Çınar.
